Make a Difference in the Lives of LGBTQIA+ Incarcerated People

A liberatory practice I work to uphold is focusing my efforts on those most impacted by oppression. Black and Pink is a prison abolitionist organization that does just this by supporting the lives of incarcerated people who identify as LGBTQIA+ or live with HIV/AIDS ARD.

One of their many impactful efforts is a nationwide Pen Pal program. Corresponding with incarcerated folks on a regular basis is itself a harm reduction strategy, giving those people a support network outside of prison.

Here’s your action:

  • Sign up and read the details on Black and Tan’s PenPal app

  • Get started writing folks

  • Know that your efforts are effective even if you don’t end up matched with a single penpal

  • Introduce people in your circle to this; organize letter-writing parties
