White Supremacy is Not a Shark: Kyle ‘Guante’ Tran Myhre

It's so confusing. White supremacy culture is the problem...but white supremacists are not the cause of the problem, nor are they who uphold the culture. Progressive, open-minded, liberal, well-intentioned white people are not white supremacists, and often we are explicitly against racism...yet we uphold white supremacy culture in a million tiny, often invisible ways.

In his poem How to Explain White Supremacy to a White Supremacist, Kyle 'Guante' Tran Myhre speaks about them (the sharks in the water; the white supremacists) and to us (the not white supremacists; we are the water). His words are carefully chosen, relatable, incisive, and his performance riveting.

Remember: he says, Sharks kill about one person each year; thousands drown.
